Age of Innocence comes back! This time, Miuccia Prada’s collection perfectly interpreted the contradiction in sweet and sexual, virginal and vamps.
Ms. Prada swathed the bosoms of her child-women, giving their figure a perturbing swell, in comparison to arrow-straight blouse collars or schoolgirl pleated skirts. A sweet cat print and a swallow in flight contrasted with the image of a reclining nude. Bra details across a see-through bodice, with sequinned flames, were set against innocent puffed sleeves.
Enter the subversive sex appeal. Some little-girl dresses paired with printed Mary Janes had bikini-top cutouts or bosom harnesses, others came with crisscross crop tops that left a tease of exposed flesh above an A-line skirt. Such prettily suggestive fare soon turned straight sexy when Prada pushed the naughty/nice counterpoint with sweet smocked dresses with sheer nude panels spangled like a showgirl around the breasts. It was a spectacle that flaunted Prada’s way with duality.
