The Hermes (pronounced “air mess”) design empire began as a simple saddlery in Paris. Popular throughout the early 1800s for their fine saddles and halters, they quickly developed a reputation for excellence and success that made them renowned worldwide. Their designer Hermes handbags escorted the company into the 21st century, while retaining the timeless and classic appreciation for Old-world charm.

Hermes opened his shop in 1837, but didn’t stay in one place very long. After making a name for himself at the Paris Exposition in 1855, he repeated the First in Class win at the 1867 Exposition Universelle. Because his harnesses and dressings were in such high demand, coronations were rescheduled in order to await an original Hermes accessory.

In 1880, Charles-Emile Hermes took over for his father and moved the shop. The business made a move into retail at this time, and Hermes began providing accessories to the world’s most elite customers. It was not unusual to ship Hermes products to North Africa, Asia, Russia, the Americas, and all over Europe. During this time, the precursor to the first Hermes handbag was designed, but this one was intended to allow a rider to carry his saddle with him.

After bringing up his sons in the business, Charles-Emile retired and turned the company over to them in 1914. The name of the company changed under new management, to Hermes Freres, and 80 craftsmen were employed at that time. Emile-Maurice obtained the sole rights to use zippers in the design of his leather goods, and Hermes released the fist zippered article of clothing — a golf jacket, designed for the Prince of Wales. The Hermes handbag made its first appearance in Paris in 1929, after Emile-Maurice created one for his wife, who had not been able to find anything to her liking.

090323-others-centuries-of-chic-design-the-hermes-storySome of the most recognized Hermes designs were born in the 1930s. A leather handbag was released in 1935, which would later become the famous Kelly Bag. Hermes carre (scarves) hit the fashion world in 1937, and were available in over 200,000 color variations. The entrance to the American market also marked the company’s 100th anniversary.

In 1951, Robert Dumas-Hermes succeeded Emile-Maurice. Although a relative only by marriage, Dumas-Hermes possessed the passion for fashion that marked the Hermes brand. He brought the duc carriage and horse logo on board, as well as the well-known orange Hermes boxes. Using an opportunity based on a photo in Life magazine, Dumas-Hermes proved his marketing ability early on. A young Grace Kelly, new princess of Monaco, was shot carrying the Hermes purse, and the purse would later be dubbed the Kelly Bag.

In 1970, the company changed hands yet again when Jean Louis Dumas-Hermes took over from his father. The younger man had visions of updating the traditional Hermes name to create modern clothing and accessories for the younger set. With a focus in advertising, the Hermes house of design was strengthened by the young owner’s approach to excellence. By this time, women were adorned in Hermes jewelry, their heads and necks graced by the scarf collection, and many sported Kelly Bags on their arms. The clothing and accessories bespoke class, privilege, and luxury.

Some of the most recognized women in the world own Hermes handbags. From Paris Hilton to the Duchess of Windsor, Madonna to Nicole Kidman, Hermes purses are often spotted throughout Hollywood and in royal circles. Below are just a few of the more popular Hermes bags:

• The Birkin: Named for Jane Birkin, this simple, sensible bag has a place in every woman’s closet. The uncomplicated design incorporates sturdy, double straps. The “envelope” style bag is closed with a brass clasp.

• The Trim shoulder bag: Made popular by former first lady Jacqueline Bouvie Onassis, this Hermes handbag boasts elegance in design. Understated, with a single strap, the purse closes with a dainty chain on the clasp.

• The Constance shoulder bag: Similar to the Constance clutch, the purse version varies only slightly. Double shoulder straps carry the bag, and a large H clasp adorns the front.

• The Kelly Bag: The style of the original Hermes handbag hasn’t changed much in half a century. Made from alligator, crocodile, ostrich-skin, and other natural leathers, it comes with a metal-tipped clasp that is small enough for a tiny padlock. The key to the lock can be easily hidden among the leather tassels attached to the handles.

090323-others-celebrities-make-hermes-handbag-famousA Hermes obsession takes a lot of work. The prestige and appeal that comes with owning one of their timeless bags is not easily acquired. The most famous Hermes handbag, the Kelly Bag, is among those most coveted by “bag snobs”. Coming in at a close second is the Birkin, one of the most popular of all Hermes purses. These two bags are in hot demand by celebrities far and wide.

Dozens of show business personalities are often seen sporting Hermes handbags in airports, on the streets of New York, and on the West Coast. Some of the most notable figures include:

• Kelly Osborne: The queen of darkness, Kelly was spotted working a crocodile Birkin with her signature look of black on black. The bag was accented by a black dress, a cocky hat, and Kelly’s “black as night” lined eyes.

• Katie Holmes & Suri: Spotted on Madison Avenue of New York, little Suri had her own pint-sized version of Mom’s orange Hermes shopping bag. Later on, Katie was seen with a rare burgundy Garden Party Handbag that looked more like a boarding bag. The Hermes handbag offset her black pencil skirt and red heels.  With all the goodies that could be stuffed into that spacious bag, Holmes was ready for anything.

• Nicole Ritchie: Rocking a bag the way only Nicole can, the star ducked under the radar with her orange Birkin at a defensive driving course. She paired the classic bag with up black leggings and boots.

• Britney Spears: The young mother was seen sporting a classic Kelly Bag, complete with her little doggy! On a shopping trip, the singer paired her black crocodile bag with a sheer, purple dress. Even after a little fender bender, all that was noticeable was Spears’ Hermes handbag in the center of the paparazzi’s shots.

• Victoria Beckham: Nobody “bends is like” Vicky when it comes to Hermes purses. Easily voted the most avid collector among celebrities, Beckham is rumored to own close to fifty of the handbags. It seems that the white Birkin is among her favorites; she’s paired it with white capris and a blue and white nautical mini hoodie, as well as jeans, a poet top, and her caramel boots. The former Spice Girl kicked it up a notch when she was noticed carrying a Himalayan Croc Birkin decked out with diamonds. Her classic black dress and broach paled in comparison to the rare Hermes handbag on her arm.

• Grace Kelly: The woman who started the revolution! Then former starlet and new Princess of Monaco was spotted in New York in 1956 carrying a black crocodile Hermes handbag to cover her pregnant tummy. (Inside was the future Princess Caroline, also a future Hermes owner.) The bag was known forever afterward as the “Kelly bag”, and is ranked in the top five classic bags by BagSnob.

• Jane Birkin: The woman for whom the Birkin was created, Jane had a chance encounter with Dumas-Hermes on a plane when she dropped her date book. Some time later, Dumas-Hermes designed a bag for her that is now the commonly recognized Birkin bag.

• Carolyn Bessette Kennedy: With John Junior on her arm, and dressed down in a simple but elegant black dress, her Kelly bag almost went unnoticed—but not quite. The graceful woman carried the bag in gloved hands, reminding the world that above all else, she was still a lady.

• Kelly Klein: The former Mrs. Klein seems to have switched teams and is now batting for Hermes. She was seen sporting a powder blue Birkin to complement her casual uniform of jeans (Calvin Kleins?), black riding boots and jacket, and a black turtleneck.

The differences between the Kelly and Birkin bags are not always easily spotted. Similar in size and textiles, their most notable differences are not always detected by the naked eye.

• Each Kelly bag takes an average of 18 hours for production, with the entire construction tackled by a single craftsman.

• The Hermes house turns out 5 Birkins each weekly.

• The Kelly is closed at the top, while the Birkin is open, making it the less formal of the two.

• The Birkin has two handles, while the more formal Kelly has only one.

090323-others-celebrities-carrying-louis-vuittonWhy do you love Louis Vuitton handbags? If you’re like most brand enthusiasts, you’re probably drawn to their exclusivity, prestige, and trend-setting style. We all want to invest in purses that are durably crafted to stand the test of time, but let’s be honest — there’s more to their appeal than just practicality. In addition to ensuring that your Louis Vuitton purse is sturdy and well-made, you also want a chic accessory that will turn heads as you head down a busy city street.

Louis Vuitton purses are notorious for attracting attention and emanating a sense of prestige — which is most likely why so many high-profile celebrities carry them. Over the years, the paparazzi has snapped shots of dozens of musicians, actors, and models toting some of the fashion house’s most coveted purses, wallets, and sunglasses. While many celebrities purchase their Louis Vuitton handbags from regular LV stores across the country, there are also an elite few who have the money and the clout to have the designer commission a custom bag crafted just for them. It doesn’t get much cooler than that!

Below are just a few of the prominent celebrities who have been sighted recently with their stylish Louis Vuitton bags in tow:

• Madonna: In January of ’09, the Material Girl was spotted on the streets of New York carrying an oversized Louis Vuitton logo bag. When paired with her metallic sweater, jeans, and fur-accented coat, the colorful bag made a bold fashion statement.

• Miley Cyrus: The famous teen icon was seen in Berlin toting the classic Monogram Canvas speedy. This practical handbag is ideal for travel, available in three versatile sizes. This isn’t the only Louis Vuitton purse in Miley’s repertoire. She’s also been seen out and about with her pricey Bottega Veneta Purple Intrecciato, an oversized shoulder bag made from butter-soft leather in a scrumptious purple hue.

• Jessica Simpson: One of the brand’s most loyal patrons, Jessica has been photographed countless times with a rotating variety of handsome Louis Vuitton bags. Her collection includes the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Pet Carrier—its distinctive styling and practical function makes it a perfect conveyor for her beloved pooch, Daisy. She’s also been seen carrying the sporty Louis Vuitton Denim Neo Speedy, which boasts aged denim that’s hand-washed for a one-of-a-kind look.

• Beyonce: The rhythmic fashionista has been seen out and about proudly brandishing her Louis Vuitton patchwork bag. This chic accessory has a steep $42,000 price tag to match its elevated style.

• Hilary Duff: The teen sensation was recently seen in the fashionable company of her Louis Vuitton Damier bag, one of the line’s timeless favorites.

• Cameron Diaz: The box-office starlet was spotted making a fashionable journey through an airport with her rolling Louis Vuitton Monogram Luggage in tow.

• Denise Richards: The actress and reality TV star was pretty in pink with her Louis Vuitton Denim bag, combining go-anywhere sportiness and soft femininity.

The list goes on and on — from Paris Hilton to Kim Kardashian to Tyra Banks to Kanye West, celebrities can’t get enough of Louis Vuitton purses, completing the look with coordinating Louis Vuitton wallets and Louis Vuitton sunglasses.

In addition to carrying them, some noteworthy celebrities have lent their personas to promoting Louis Vuitton’s line. Most recently, Madonna, Uma Thurman, Scarlett Johansson, and Sean Connery have appeared in Louis Vuitton marketing campaigns, reinforcing the link between the prestigious brand and the Hollywood lifestyle.

090323-others-benefits-of-buying-louis-vuitton-replicasWe’ve all heard the old cliche: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” With Louis Vuitton handbags, it couldn’t be truer. The esteemed fashion house’s products are among the most replicated in the world, testament to the brand’s longevity and cutting-edge style.

If you love the look of Louis Vuitton handbags but lack the budget to splurge on the real thing, you’re not alone. In today’s tough economic times, few typical consumers can afford to spend an entire paycheck on one designer purse. The good news? You don’t have to sacrifice style for the sake of adhering to your budget. Replica Louis Vuitton handbags have become all the rage in recent years — and they’ve come a long way from the days of cheap imitation purses offered on street corners or out of the trunks of automobiles. Nowadays, you can find a reputable, quality-conscious seller online, allowing you to shop from the comfort of home.

The popularity of imitation purses is a study in irony. As the designers strive to make their creations unique and distinctive with trademark signatures and logos, their products become more sought after by consumers, which prompts replica purse makers to produce a greater supply of imitations.

What characteristics make today’s Louis Vuitton replicas better than the earlier sub-par versions?

• Quality: With the latest cutting-edge technologies, replica Louis Vuitton purses are better made than ever before. Every detail, from the fabrics to the stitching, is meticulously replicated. It is important to note, however, that not all replica purse sellers adhere to the same standards of quality. Some cut costs by using inferior materials and construction shortcuts, while others, like Top 1 Handbags, craft each replica purse to the same exacting standards, ensuring you’ll receive a bag that’s virtually identical to the real thing.

• Style: Creators of replica handbags design their products around the latest and hottest trends in the fashion accessory industry. At Top 1 Handbags, we carefully study each of Louis Vuitton’s seasonal lines, then hand-pick the most popular items for replication. Our inventory reflects the most in-demand Louis Vuitton purses, wallets, and sunglasses. When purchasing some of the trendier styles, such as bold animal prints or sleek metallic fabrics, going faux is a wise move, since you probably won’t be carrying these transitory fashions year-round.

• Authentic Touches: Well-made replica handbags will boast all of the high-design details as the real thing, including logos, insignias, authenticity cards, locks and keys, protective dust bags, and more. No-one but you will know you’re not carrying the genuine article.

• Durability: While the imitation handbags from decades past were notorious for falling apart a few months down the road, that’s not the case with today’s well-made replicas. The latest Louis Vuitton purse imitations are carefully constructed to endure many years of everyday wear and tear. The leather remains smooth and supple, the zippers and hardware perform reliably, the liners and pockets are rugged enough to accommodate whatever you toss in, and the stitching won’t unravel or loosen with frequent use.

Even if you don’t have a lot of disposable income, you can still enjoy the finer things in life. Keep up with the latest fashion trends with a high-quality, meticulously constructed replica of your favorite Louis Vuitton handbag. When you choose a reputable source like Top 1 Handbags, your purchase will be more than a cheap imitation — it will be an investment in a long-lasting, fashion-conscious accessory that you’ll carry for years to come.

090323-others-a-long-legacy-of-fashion-the-history-of-hermesThe Hermes (pronounced air mess) name has a long history of excellence and worldwide success. Well known for their designer handbags, Hermes entered the fashion world as a saddler in 1837. Originally running a harness workshop on the Grands Boulevards quarter of Paris, Thiery Hermes created a legacy that would extend many generations and nearly two centuries.

Very soon after its inception, the Hermes house was already making a name for itself. In 1855, Hermes earned accolades at the Paris Exposition for first in class, and later won the First Class Medal of the 1867 Exposition Universelle. So fine were the Hermes harnesses and dressings, that coronations were often put off for the completion of these accoutrements.
Around 1880, Charles-Emile Hermes took over the business and moved the shop to a location near Palais de I’Elysee at 24 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honore. It was during this time that Hermes launched the business into retail sales, and bringing up his own sons in the business, the Hermes Company became purveyors to the most elite clients in Europe, North Africa, Russia, Asia, and the Americas. The first nod to the Hermes handbag came in the form of a “haut a courroies” bag, which allowed riders to carry their saddles with them.

By 1914, Charles Emile had retired, handing over the reins of the company to his sons, who renamed it Hermes Freres. They employed 80 craftsmen during this time, and also obtained exclusive rights to use the zipper in their leather goods and clothing. Throughout the 20s, Emile-Maurice remained as the sole head of the business. He had an eye toward the ever-changing future, and added an accessories line at this time. While nurturing his own sons into the family business, Hermes added a line of leather garments, the first being a zippered leather golfing jacket that was designed for the Prince of Wales. The Hermes handbag was introduced in 1922 – at the insistence of a demanding wife. Emile-Maurice’s wife complained of not having a suitable one, so her husband designed one for her. Hermes previewed his women’s couture line in Paris in 1929, following the release of the Hermes purse.

During the 1930s, Hermes produced some of his most recognized goods. The leather Sac a depeches (later renamed the Kelly bag) was introduced in 1935, and in 1937 the Hermes carre (scarves) debuted.  The 30s also celebrated Hermes’ 100th anniversary, and witnessed the entrance in the U.S. market by way of the Neiman Marcus department store in New York.

After his death in 1951, Emile-Maurice Hermes was succeeded by Robert Dumas-Hermes, his relative by marriage. Dumas-Hermes introduced the carriage and horse logo and well-known orange Hermes boxes. He was first and foremost a businessman with a mind toward marketing, and in 1956 when the new princess of Monaco was spotted carrying the Sac a depeches Hermes handbag, he promptly renamed it the Kelly Bag. The shot of Princess Grace appeared in Life magazine, and by the late 1950s, the Hermes logo reached renowned status.

The company changed hands again in 1970, when Jean Louis Dumas-Hermes took over from his father. He later launched an advertising campaign that took the discreet Hermes name from “old people’s nostalgia” to the subject of a young person’s dreams. He strengthened the marketing for the fashion house and strove for excellence. By this time, women were sporting the Kelly bag and the Constance clutch, their heads and necks adorned with Hermes’ trademark brightly colored scarves. Bold Hermes jewelry and sensuous cashmeres only added to the sense of class and luxury.

Some of the most recognized women in the world carry designer Hermes handbags. Among these are Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton, Madonna, and the Duchess of Windsor. Below are descriptions of the company’s most popular Hermes purses:

• The Kelly Bag: Typically made from crocodile, alligator, ostrich-skin, or other plain leathers, it sports a metal-tipped clasp that can be fastened with a tiny padlock. The key is often hidden in the leather and dangles close by from the handle.

• The Constance shoulder bag: This Hermes purse is a simple design, and varies only slightly from the Constance clutch. The shoulder bag offers a double strap, and both have the large H clasp.

• The Trim shoulder bag: A favorite of Jacqueline Bouvie Onasis, this Hermes handbag is an elegant favorite. It boasts a simple, single strap with a belted buckle, and a dainty chain clasp.

• The Birkin: Named after Jane Birkin, this Chanel bag offers sturdy double straps, a simplistic clasp, and comes in the traditional “envelope” style.

Jean-Louis Dumas-Hermes, the new owner, had a penchant for advertising, and managed to make the understated Hermes name relevant to contemporary consumers. The fashion house was strengthened by his experience and his fresh approach to excellence. Many women were carrying the Kelly Bag and the Constance clutch. They covered their heads with Hermes scarves, accessorized with the jewelry line, and dressed in the cashmere clothing for added style, luxury, and class.

Many of the most recognized women in the world carry Hermes handbags. Among them are Paris Hilton, Nicole Kidman, The Duchess of Windsor, and Madonna. Below you will find simple descriptions of the more popular purses:

• The Constance shoulder bag: Simply designed, the Hermes purse varies only slightly from the Constance clutch. A large H clasp closes the inside, and comfortable, double shoulder straps provide an easy carry.

• The Birkin: This Hermes handbag also offers a simple clasp for its “envelope” style opening, and double straps. The bag was named after Jane Birkin.

• The Kelly Bag: This was the original Hermes handbag, and not much has changed in over fifty years. The Kelly Bag is made from crocodile, alligator, ostrich-skin, or other natural leathers. A tiny padlock can fit through the metal-tipped clasp, and the key to the lock is easily hidden in the leather around the handles.

• The Trim shoulder bag: Former first lady Jacqueline Bouvie Onassis made this one popular, and it continues to be an elegant favorite among women. A single strap carries the bag, and a simple, dainty chain clasp closes the latch.

090323-others-a-chic-commemoration-gucci-celebrates-with-the-heritage-collection1When the acclaimed fashion icon, Gucci, marked the arrival of its 70th birthday, the creative designer pulled out all the stops by introducing the long-awaited Heritage Gucci purse line. Intended to pay tribute to the newly renovated Rome store, the sumptuous collection evokes the rich heritage and history of the family-run European company.

When commissioning the sleek Gucci Heritage series, the company’s creative director, Frida Giannini, relied on the tried-and-true design philosophies on which the brand was founded. Longtime fans of the brand will notice some recognizable characteristics in these chic Gucci purses. The most noticeable aspect is the elegant print, dubbed Rinascimento, first seen in vintage Gucci handbags from the 1950s.

Taking its cues from age-old Renaissance styling, the floral motif also features crowns and flory spires, all executed in rich red and green shades and placed against a contrasting cream-colored background. The burgundy crocodile leather trim lends a touch of distinction to these multi-faceted Gucci purses.

While the style of these Gucci purses is founded in the brand’s initial principles of design, they also incorporate cutting-edge style cues. Creative director Frida Giannini perhaps said it best when she described the Heritage line as “a perfect match to the essence of the city…rich in tradition, yet modern in spirit.”

Not a fan of the feminine florals that encompass the Rinascimento print? Not to worry: the Heritage collection also offers your choice of exotic leathers, including ostrich, python, and classic crocodile. Regardless of the materials used, each handmade Heritage Gucci purse is hand-dyed in a range of rich, sophisticated colors from burgundy to brown. In the Heritage collection, you’ll find five inimitable styles, such as The Bamboo and The Jackie. The various styles make different use of the sumptuous crocodile accents.

The Heritage Gucci handbags may be a feast for the eyes and effectively commemorate the brand’s iconic status, but they’re also highly functional. Choose the bag that offers the right amount of storage space for your lifestyle. Sturdiness and durability are also of paramount importance. The Heritage purses are equipped with hard-wearing leather straps that make shoulder or hand carrying a breeze. The Heritage Gucci purses are all embellished with gleaming hardware forged from precious metals, adding upscale beauty while remaining serviceable.

The actual Heritage Gucci purses are sold exclusively at the remodeled Rome store in Via Condotti and at the New York Saks, but that doesn’t mean you have to travel far and wide to enjoy their distinctive style. There are several reputable Gucci replica purse sellers that offer the same look, durability, and craftsmanship as the real thing at a significantly lower cost.

The debut of the Gucci Heritage collection was timed to coincide with the renovation of the brand’s Rome store, which has been modernized to capture the essence of Gucci’s contemporary prestige. The store not only offers high-style Gucci purses, but also men’s and women’s clothing, colognes, jewelry, and accessories. A special showcase area is used to display some of the brand’s exclusive limited editions.

The Heritage collection of Gucci handbags encapsulates the cutting-edge style and meticulous craftsmanship that has distinguished Gucci as a fashion icon during its 70-year lifespan.

As the name suggests, the Mirror Clutch is highly reflective, white-hot metal embellishments like studs, mirror cut-outs and buckles.
